MORGAN COURTS RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY

Thanks to everyone who attended our grand opening, ribbon cutting event to celebrate the completion of Morgan Courts. After a short program, tennis fans of all ages and skill levels had the opportunity to show off their skills and learn from the pros from InnerCity Tennis and USTA Northern. The Washburn Boys and Girls tennis teams were on hand to play in and provide an assist as well. Thank you to Michael Lynne Tennis Shop, InnerCity Tennis, USTA Northern, and Tim Burke for donating drawing prizes.

We are happy to see these courts being used and look forward to many years of fantastic tennis!

LOVE MORGAN COURTS UPDATE 8/12/2020

We are excited to announce that construction has begun on the Morgan tennis courts.  Construction began on Monday, August 10th and we hope to have new courts completed this fall!
The Minneapolis Park Board and Love Morgan Courts/Support the Courts joined forces for the past three years to secure funding to replace the Morgan tennis courts.  Thank you to all of you who have supported this project, either financially and/or in lending your support to petitions.  In particular, we want to thank our donors and neighborhood supporters:

We’d also like to thank all the work the Minneapolis Park Board has contributed to this project.  We would not have been able to get this done without them!

The project is expected to move quickly with grading, installation of fence posts and paving to be completed by the last week of August.  Once that is completed, fencing will be installed and the asphalt needs to cure for 30 days before we are able to color coat. We plan to color coat in early October, however we need warm weather for several days in order to complete the work. If the weather does not cooperate, we will color coat in the Spring of 2021.

OVERVIEW

Morgan Tennis Courts are nestled within Minnehaha Creek Park, part of a regional system of parks in Minneapolis. The courts are positioned within a prime location in the Lynnhurst neighborhood in south Minneapolis. Morgan Courts provide hours of tennis for neighborhood and community members, and also serve as the home courts for Washburn High School Boys’ and Girls’ tennis teams.

  • Over the past few years, Morgan Courts have fallen into serious disrepair.
  • Recreational tennis players and the Washburn teams have stopped using the courts, due to concern about the potential for injury.
  • The Washburn Tennis Boys’ Tennis Team, which currently rosters 45 boys on a no-cut team, was forced to relocate 2017 varsity practices to a Bloomington park, a 30 minute drive from Washburn High School!
